Do your kids need to bring cupcakes into school and not sure what to bake?
These super fun recipes will give you some amazing ideas while making it look like you bought them at the local cupcake shop (at a third of the cost, if not more ?)
Here are some I love:
Frog Cupcakes
Source: Made To Be A Momma
I don’t know about you, but anytime I’m feeling a little FROGGY is exactly the time my kids need a treat or dessert for school
I was literally on my deathbed from a migraine that was probably caused by my kids when Mitch told me he needed a spring themed treat for school tomorrow
So… I tied a cold washcloth to my head, hopped on Pinterest, and was so lucky to stumble upon these ?
When you see how cute these frog cupcakes turn out you will never believe that not only can you use a box mix to make these, but there are only 5 ingredients needed TOTAL!
The turn out of these is definitely Instagram and Pinterest worthy, and it took us hardly anytime at all
After quickly putting these together I went back into my room and told my kids (and husband) that this froggy needs her rest and all visitors will be TOWED!
Quick Rainbow Cupcakes
Source: Dream A Little Bigger
Cupcakes, check. Jumbo cupcakes, check. Jumbo RAINBOW cupcakes, checkmate!
These cupcakes are moist, decadent, and have a gorgeous turnout. I love how she uses larger cupcake pans that make 6, but you could just as easily divide the batter and make 12 smaller ones
These are the perfect cupcakes just in time for St Patrick’s Day, or any spring event really
What I liked the most about this recipe is that she incorporates a “just like the store bakery frosting recipe” that only has a couple of ingredients, and it makes quite the addition to an already amazing recipe
Taste the rainbow with these!
Monster Cupcakes

If you know me then you know Halloween is this mommy’s jam, MONSTER JAM!
When October rolled around as a kid my made would have a homemade adorable costume ready for me, our house was decked out, and we were the last kids trick or treating into the brisk hours of the night
It’s safe to say I have definitely continued that tradition in my house
This year my son was Sully, the blue monster, and my daughter was boo (how adorable, right?!) I was Roz, the slug monster lady with that awful voice, and my husband was Mike Wazowski
There is always a Halloween party after the Halloween costume march at school, and these monster cupcakes were absolutely perfect for it!
They were easy to make, and we received so many compliments on how awesome they turned out. I would highly recommend these for a Halloween function, or a monster themed party or event
We scare because we care!
Party Piñata Cupcakes
Source: Sallys Baking Addiction
Life would be a million times better if there were pinatas placed strategically throughout the day, or in cupcakes. LIKE THESE!
These pinata cupcakes are seriously unbelievable!
This recipe is so tasty that it’s party worthy, relatively easy to make, and once you frost the cupcakes you won’t be able to tell that there is anything even inside
She uses rainbow sprinkles inside her cupcakes, but you could use this for a gender reveal party and it would be outrageously adorable
I mean, how cute would this look with little blue or pink sprinkles on the inside?
If I get the chance to throw a gender reveal party for somebody, or god forbid I have a third child, this is hands down the unique approach I will be using!
Galaxy Cupcakes Recipe
Source: My Home Based Life
My husband is a huge star wars fan. In college, it was always something I thought was cute that I kind of made fun of him for. I never thought how big of an impact it would make in my life lol
When my son got to be about five years old my husband was adamant on changing his room from the cute bear theme I had to a star wars theme
It made me sick to my stomach to even think about my little Mitchy with a “may the force be with you” sticker all over his room, ugh talk about tacky!
We settled, and now I LOVE his room. I went with a galaxy theme. Although there is no Star Wars characters or quotes covering his room yet, I’d imagine once he’s old enough to watch it and love it there will be and it will be such an easy transition
His room lights up at night with the planet and stars on his ceiling, and there’s a “dare to dream big” and “you’re the brightest star I see” sticker in his room
Overall, it’s just so cute
I’m sure it’s no surprise to tell you what his party theme was for his fifth birthday… space!
These galaxy cupcakes came in clutch for his party. The kids were obsessed with how good they tasted, and they looked amazing with the theme
If you are going the star wars route for a party and your husband won’t budge these will still be an awesome look to it
Plus, they aren’t hard to make, don’t take up too much time, and you don’t have to hassle with a cake. This recipe really is spacetacular!
Pudding Filled Dirt Cupcakes
Source: Inside BruCrew Life
Although I consider myself a master baker and I absolutely love trying new things as often as I possibly can, my favorite dessert of all time is extremely simple
In fact, I share the same favorite dessert as my three year old daughter. Dirt and worms!
There’s something about that crunchy oreo mixture mixed with the gooey chocolate pudding and squishy worms that makes me the happiest. I’m definitely that mom who brings awesome Pinterest worthy treats to events but will make dirt N’ worm cups for my kids in their lunchboxes so I can snack on them throughout the day
I definitely didn’t think my treat could be topped, but when I found this pudding filled dirt cupcake recipe I lost my marbles
This recipe combines everything you love about the classic dirt n’ worms, with an addition to a soft decadent cupcake outside.
With less than 10 ingredients and relatively simple to make, these would be great for a Halloween party, nature-themed, angry birds themed, or bug themed party
You will DIG these!
Small Batch Vanilla Cupcakes
Source: Celebrating Sweets
These cupcakes are made from scratch, full of vanilla frosting, topped with sprinkles, and ready in less than a half hour!
As a mommy, I have definitely been better about making a valiant effort to make everything I can from scratch. I have read a lot about the benefits of knowing what’s in your food, and then teaching your kids about it too
I want them to have the same healthy habits I grew up with and it gets challenging in a fast food world like this
It’s usually just plain old easier to use the box with cupcakes and sometimes you just have to. But this recipe is the first I have come across that makes doing it yourself just as easy as…. Well, not doing it yourself!
These vanilla cupcakes would be an easy whip up for a small get together as they only make 5, or you could always double the recipe if you’re looking to feed more
Stop, collaborate, and listen…I’m back with a brand new vanilla cupcake mission!
Easy Beach Birthday Cupcakes
Source: Oh My! Sugar High
If you are lucky enough to live by the sea, you are lucky enough. Let’s be honest, an ocean breeze just puts a mind at complete ease
I wasn’t born that kind of lucky, but living in Michigan has left me surrounded by the Great Lakes, and I get the same feeling at our cottage on Lake Huron
The best memories made with my family are the days spent by the water… swimming, grilling, playing in the sand, etc
These easy beach cupcakes are a shore thing! Physically, they are extremely aesthetically pleasing, and they are made extremely unique too
She uses crushed graham crackers over the blue frosting, creating a sand and water feel and then tops it all off with an umbrella stick
Whether you’re looking to surprise your summer birthday boy or girl, or just want to add some pizzazz to a day at the pool or beach, these are a fanta sea!
Snowman Cupcakes
Source: The Country Chic Cottage
This past winter in Michigan we had 13… THIRTEEN… Snow days ☃️
I would have absolutely killed to be a little one this winter. I can remember as a kid freezing temperatures and still getting on the bus for school, at times even getting stuck in the snow and switching to another bus on the way
My kids were living out their dreams while I was living in an absolute nightmare trying to deal with getting work off or getting a sitter!
On one of the days, I took a vacation day and we were all outside making snowmen together. I looked over at my husband’s creation and instead of using small branches for arms he had these HUGE branches, almost stump looking
He looks at me and says “this is pretty accurate don’t you think? I’ve been really going hard at the gym”, Aaaaaand that’s when I asked him for a divorce 😉
We got inside, sipped hot chocolate, and made these cute snowmen cupcakes!
I absolutely love how easy these are to make. It’s almost as easy as decorating the snowmen outside. They turn out so yummy, and adorable!
Just like a snowman you and your kids can customize the cupcakes you individually decorate, and I’ll be honest… it made a great Instagram post!
These really are snow much fun!
School Supply Cupcakes
Source: My Joy-Filled Life
Ugh… that awful midsummer moment when they start playing back to school commercials. EW.
Towards the middle of July, I start stressing about back to school clothes, supplies, backpacks, etc. etc. All the shopping that needs to be done before September can be so stressful
My husband legitimately had a talk with me last summer that changed my life. He told me to enjoy the moments leading up to school because once I don’t have that stress anymore that means my kids have grown up
I REALLY needed to hear that
I changed my outlook and have done my best to make back to school as fun as I possibly can while dealing with the stress that comes along with it. Plus, my kids are at the age where they love going back to school and get so excited so I don’t want to be the Debby Downer
These cupcakes are perfect for back to school vibes. It takes a classic recipe and adds a pack of bubblegum for an eraser placed on top and a wafer cookie with drawn lines for a ruler
They are so easy but so unique. Your kids will absolutely love these. We had them the night before the beginning of the year and it made them even more excited, and definitely put a smile on my face too
Keep calm and welcome back to school!
Polar Bear Paw Cupcakes Recipe
Source: A Few Shortcuts
These polar bear cupcakes are PAWsome!
I always dig a recipe that aesthetically looks like a lot of work has been put in, when in reality it’s fairly simple
She uses a cake mix, adds an oreo cookie and frosting to make the paw, and some blue food coloring to make the cupcakes look like the arctic ocean water!
These would be a nice twist for a Holiday treat or could be used for a bear themed party. My best friends last name has the word “Bear” in it, so I plan on incorporating this into her birthday present this year
If you love oreo’s, and you love cupcakes, this is the recipe for you!
Frosted Animal Cookie Cupcakes
Source: May Baking Bliss
Mitch did a presentation on zoo animals this year in his second grade class…
He dressed up as a zookeeper, parents, and kids gathered, and he read from his little piece of paper. They split the presentations into two days, so I was able to watch 9 adorable presentations that day
I have to say he was the cutest and best presentation out of the entire class (yes I am bias). Following each presentation, each kid handed out a treat or present, and we used these animal cookie cupcakes
Everybody has had frosted animal cookies, right?
Well, tell me why it was next to impossible to find these cookies ANYWHERE?
I went to Meijer, then Costco, then Tom’s, then Target, and finally found them at… WALMART!
It was worth the hunt because these turned out amazing. We got so many compliments about these funfetti animal cupcakes… and not only about how good they tasted but how good they looked too!
Whether you’re having an animal themed party, preparing a zoo trip and want to educate your little ones, or whatever your reason may be for making these, I highly recommend them!
Slimy Monster Cupcakes
Source: Cutefetti
“Sometimes me think, what is a friend? And then me say, a friend is someone you share your last cookie with” – Cookie Monster
This is hands down the best monster recipe I’ve seen for cupcakes thus far
All it takes is any cake mix of your choice (you could also use your favorite homemade recipe) Slime Green Sparkle Jar in lime green (you can get this on Amazon made by Wilton) googly eyes, and two containers white frosting
The turn out is Instagram worthy!
They are the cutest and most fun little monsters turned into cupcakes I have ever seen, perfect for a quick treat to whip up for a Halloween event of monster themed party
These little monsters kind of resemble Mike Wozowski from Monsters Inc, which happens to be my son’s favorite movie… so I predict I’ll be making these in the VERY near future
Easy Patriotic Cupcakes
Source: Living Well Mom
The American flag is a symbol of our freedom, national pride, and history ??
Although these are hands down the most perfect cupcake for the 4th of July, or memorial day weekend, it doesn’t need to be these monumental dates to educate your little ones on the importance of pride for our country
I have found the best way to educate my kids is by using either food, or fun, or both. Food and fun both worked perfect in this instance, and I looked up some American Flag and America quotes to give to my second grader while we decorated these together cupcakes together
We also went to one of the famous Museums in Michigan, and my son had fun looking at all the artifacts it had to offer
I love the age he’s at because he’s so willing to learn, and I am so ready to teach! These cupcakes only took 5 ingredients, were extremely simple to make, and turned out gorgeous
Let freedom ring!
Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes
Source: House of Hepworths
Wow, I love the uniqueness of these ice cream cone cupcakes
I will admit, these are quite the project and do and they take a couple of different steps, but if you commit to making them the turn out is 100% worth it
I mean, who wouldn’t want to hold a cupcake inside an ice cream cone and then eat it? My sister made these for our 4th of July party and they were SUCH a hit with the kids!
My husband had one and had the idea of popping them in the freezer for a while because he loves cold cupcakes and it “didn’t feel right” eating a warm ice cream cone
I had a bite and it was honestly great that way too. These are a must try!
