Planning out a new month in your bullet journal can be quite the task…
I know, at least for me, I spend plenty of time checking out other spreads for inspiration and ideas. I’ll pull bits of things I like to “Frankenstein” something together when I don’t have a theme already picked
That’s why I love scrolling through Instagram for new ideas! These May monthly spread examples help you cut down on SOME of that time and get you back to actually planning ?
Here are the spreads I like:
Minimalist Monthly Spread
If you’re looking for a simple and pretty minimal spread but still want some personality…
Then this one will definitely give you some ideas!
I love the contrast between the harsh lines of the boxes and the cloud doodle at the top of the spread. The actual doodle is super creative and I haven’t seen an abstract cloud like that before!
May showers bring June flowers ?
Disney Monthly Spread

Any Disney fan out there will surely recognize that header font…
The two page calendar with a simple to-do list is such a great layout in my opinion. Plus, I really like the way they have the header for each week in black but the text in white
It’super clean and the rounded edges really fit with the overall Disney theme. I think harsh corners would have thrown it off a bit?
She has even more pages in this same theme but my favorite would have to be her mood tracker page using Cinderellas laundry bubbles to fill in her moods!
Don’t be late to the ball this month! ?
Simple May Spread
I don’t know about you but, when I’m not going for a minimalist theme I like the more hand drawn look!
The daily boxes in this monthly spread is exactly what I mean. They still look clean but the small “imperfections” give more of a fun vibe… unlike the example above with the lines drawn with a ruler
Plus, I love the way she breaks up the weeks with different colors making it easy to see exactly what’s going on. This spread would be great if you’re just starting out but want something that will easily fit your theme
Color code your way to summer with this simple spread!
May Antique Spread

Wow… this monthly spread is crazy!
While it might not be the most effective layout, it surely is one of the most detailed I’ve seen so far. I’m taken back by the amount of detail and can only imagine how long this must take taken!
Even if you aren’t going with this type of layout you could definitely take inspiration from this spread. With everything from the candlelight at the top to the books at the bottom, it’s filled with ideas
This isn’t your Grandmas bullet journal… or is it?! ?
Colorful Monthly Log

Looking for something a bit more wild and abstract!?
If you are, then this spread will definitely give you some motivation to break out the paint or watercolors!
I love how she has the flower doodles decorating the overall layout but then comes in with the crazy paint on top. The way she has the calendar setup with a complete square and the empty squares crossed out as needed is super satisfying
It provides the perfect amount of contrast to the very busy decoration… Plus, the May header in the cover page with the negative space creating the text is amazing!
Wake up your creative side with this super fun monthly spread!
Simple May Spread

I know, sometimes I find myself a little behind at the beginning of the month…
If you’re like me, this monthly spread is the perfect layout to get up and going quick! It’s super simple but still cute at the same time
You can’t see it in the picture, but she also has a little doodle on the left side along with a super simple youtube and Instagram tracker
Plan out your month and get back to those daily tasks!
Orange Spread
Photo credit: Journal by Mir on Instagram
I absolutely love the torn brown paper in bujos but this orange scrap paper takes it to the next level!
The actual layout of the monthly spread is super cute as well. Not to mention the overall simplicity making it an easy layout to take inspiration from
If you’re just starting your bullet journal for the first time but want to add some personality to your spread, then this one will definitely give you some ideas!
Use up that old scrap paper and plan out your month!
Taco Monthly Spread
Photo credit: Jordan Howard on Instagram
Tacos have to be one of my favorites…
So it’s a no brainer that anything having to do with bullet journals and tacos is something I love!
Just like the example above, the overall layout of the spread is super simple and could easier be set up with a ruler. But where this spread really comes together is the super cute doodles at the top
Plus, May is obviously a perfect month for the Taco theme ?
Don’t forget Taco Tuesday on your spread!
Doodle Monthly Spread

Speaking of cute doodles…
How about this adorable monthly spread!? The way she has the daily boxes decorated is so fun!
Even if you don’t want a super busy layout with all the doodles, you could take inspiration from the calendar layout and just do the boxes with the drop shadow! I always love a good drop shadow
Doodles or no doodles, that’s the real questions!? ?
Half Page Spread
Photo credit: Marjo Bujo on Instagram
If you choose no doodles, then this spread might give you some inspiration!
Instead of going with a full two page spread, this calendar is just half a page… but still has a monthly log with room to write out important dates and tasks
I like the idea but would have to try it out for myself to see for sure! Maybe doing a two page spread for the calendar but leaving some space at the bottom to expand on important things? hmmmm
Take inspiration and create something that fits your style!
Pink Monthly Spread
Ok, if the minimalist look isn’t your thing, then you’re going to love this one!
The way she has the clouds overlapping the daily boxes really adds depth to the overall spread and I love it. Not to mention the colors and shading that was used throughout!
Even if you aren’t going with a pink theme… I think this one would look great in blue or purple too
Stay on cloud 9 with this artsy monthly spread!
Spring Monthly Spread
If this spread doesn’t scream SPRING… then I don’t know what does!
The floral drawing wraps around the entire layout and provides such an adorable border
I love the way she has space in the middle of the calendar so she isn’t writing in the crack of the journal… Plus, the crisp lines look great against the green vines and flowers
If your bujo has a spring theme, this spread will definitely spark some ideas!
Floral May Monthly
Photo credit: McKenna Hansen on Instagram
Going with a floral theme in your bullet journal this month!?
This would be a great layout if you are! It doesn’t matter if you’re doing red flowers or not, you could add in any type of flower that fits to really personalize this spread
I love the contrast between the simple calendar layout and the decorations. It even has some room for notes at the bottom but you could even plan out more room than that to expand on important daily events
Summer is almost here!
Cute Space Spread
Photo credit: Bujo and Cookies on Instagram
How cute and fun is this cartoony space theme!?
I love that the doodles are simple enough that even I could recreate something similar but the way she’s colored them in makes them look so clean! Not to mention the calendar layout with the basic, but adorable header
This would be a great spread to take inspiration from if you’ve set up a few monthly spreads in your day but want to start adding more detail… or if you have better doodling ability than myself ?
I’m wishing on a shooting star with this one!
Green Watercolor Monthly
I’m always game for a cute watercolor spread and this one is no exception
The way she keeps the color to a minimum is perfect in my opinion! Plus, it looks like she created the leaf / vine illustration on a different piece of paper then added it on after the fact… what a great idea so you don’t have the colors bleeding through!
If you want to break out the watercolors but don’t want to deal with the next 5 pages being soaked, then this layout is for you
This monthly spread is an olive branch!
Bee Theme May Spread
Wow… everything from the banner to the calendar and doodles, this monthly spread is so put together
I love how neat everything is and the little honey pot at the bottom is such a cute touch
If you’re the type that likes things a certain way and needs to keep things super organized, this theme will definitely give you some good ideas…
I know you can’t see it, but on the other page, she has a full spread to-do list with super neat handwriting and even more doodles. Love it!
Bee… the Queen Bee this month! ?
May Space Theme
The simple space theme on this spread is so cute!
I love that it’s not your typical shooting stars and planets… not that there’s anything wrong with that but if you aren’t going with a cartoony look, this one is perfect
It’s simple, to the point but still has an adorable overall look
Going to the moon doesn’t have to be complex ?
May Monthly Log
Wow… this spread with that bird drawing is amazing!
While this is completely out of my artistic ability, I appreciate the amount of time this must have taken. Since I can’t draw like that, I still take inspiration from the layout with the handwritten daily headers!
If I were to add something like this to my bullet journal, I would have a similar calendar but maybe switch things up with a simple landscape doodle at the bottom ?
Whether you can draw like this or not, you can always find inspiration!
Blue Monthly Spread
This spread is definitely more my style and within my reach lol…
I love the cute could doodles, not only because they’re easy, but the multiple shades of blue make them pop! Plus, the white highlights on them give them some extra flair
Like I mentioned above, this layout is definitely something I would try out in my own bujo by just switching out the doodle theme
There’s nothing better than a simple monthly spread with a touch of your own personality!
Fox Theme
Anyone out there going with a fox theme is this month!?
Even if you personally aren’t, I still love this pretty simple spread… I would change up the colors to add some more bright contrast but that’s just me
Maybe different shades of purple for each week’s header?!
If you’re a bujo beginner, this monthly spread would a great base to expand further from!
Small Monthly Spread
Want a quick and easy monthly spread?!
This layout is super minimal and could be set up in no time! A ruler would be your best friend if you’re going to try something like this ?
I love that it takes up less than a page and still has room for an inspirational quote at the bottom!
If you’re in pinch for time this month, try out this simple spread!
